Creative Elements ~ Saturday Sketch Challenge 242

Good Evening Friends,

Today was a lemons to lemonade type of day.  It started off not so great for various reasons.  The big one was that we needed some repairs to the car my husband drives.  I'm so thankful that it didn't completely let go because it could have been pretty scary losing a back tire off the car on the highway.  There was a bolt that was loose and his tire was in a position it shouldn't be.  All is okay, and we had a family member look at the car.  We've ordered a part and that should be all set by next week sometime.  All the other little snafu's that happen in life seem small when you see what's in front of you could have been worse.

The lemonade part was that he didn't get back from handling all of that until about 10am and I talked him into taking the day off.  I got to have lunch with my honey.  It doesn't get much better than some mom and dad time, with no little one going a mile a minute.  Not that I don't love that too, but it's nice to have couple time once in a while.

I'm so thankful I got to have a few hours of time with my sweetie.  Well, I guess I should talk about my card, ey?  When I saw the sketch this week, I knew I wanted my card to sparkle, so I started with a sheet of shimmer white.  I guess it would be easier to do measurements first, so here they are:

Base:  11 x 4 1/4" scored and folded in half at 5 1/2" ~ Shimmer White
Layer 2: 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" ~ Basic Black
Layer 3: 3 3/4 x 5" ~ Shimmer White
Layer 4: 3 postage punches in black and one decorative label punch in black.
Layer 5: three 1" squares in shimmer white
Layer 6: Three butterflies stamped on shimmer white
Layer 7: A button, but its' a strip of paper going through the button to make a faux thread
and don't forget the cute staple!

Stamps:  Creative Elements
Ink:  Wisteria Wonder & Concord Crush
Paper:  Shimmer White & Basic Black
Accessories:  Neutrals buttons, A staple, postage punch, 1 inch square punch, vintage wallpaper embossing folder, big shot machine, paper snips, glue dots, self adhesive pearls.

Step by steps:
  1. I started with layer 3 and stamped the cool flourish from the creative elements stamp set in the bottom left hand corner.
  2. I ran this layer through the big shot using the vintage wallpaper die.  (it looks so shimmery in real life)
  3. Next I took the leftover pieces of black and shimmer (that were left after I cut the bottom 3 layers) and punched three 1" squares out of shimmer paper, and three postage squares out of basic black paper.  I played with this layer and decided to turn the center square to a diamond.
  4. Then I went and found my decorative label punch to punch the top left hand corner element.  I played with what to put on it for a while.  I tried vintage brads, bows, shimmer brads and went back to the original sketch and just added a button.
  5. Because I stamped my image first, I moved the staple back a little so it wouldn't interfere with the flourish.
  6. Next, I used the rock and roll technique for the butterflies.  I inked the butterflies first in the lighter purple (wisteria wonder), then rolled them in the darker concord crush color to add the color outside of the butterflies and make them two toned.  So pretty!  I stamped these butterflies on shimmer and cut them out with scissors.
  7. Finally, I sliced a very thin piece of card stock to slide through my button and stuck it to the front of my card.
  8. I wanted to add a sentiment but decided to leave it here.  I don't want to add too much and overdo it, it's so pretty.
That's all for tonight!  Check out what my girlfriends did with this sketch if you have time and play along!  TGIF!

Rubbah hugs,
Selene Kempton

Mommy - Daddy time is the best! Our daughters are around the same age. I don't know how much attention your daughter likes but mine wants it 24-7. Love her to pieces and wouldn't want it any other way, but that little time you get with your husband is the best. Oh and I love your card.
