Saturday Sketch Challenge 243 ~ Happy Birthday John

Hello Friends!

It's Friday night and that means another cool sketch from stamping 411.  I have a really fun project to share with you tonight. I was inspired when I saw this fun card on Mary Davidson's blog.  Looking at the sketch which has an optional "window" element, I thought it would be fun to make a money holder card for my Godson, who's birthday party is tomorrow.

First I thought I'd show you the part that he will like, the hidden money pouch! :D  You can make a money holder in anything with an exacto blade and a cutting pad.  Well, I can't find mine, so I had to improvise.  {snickering here}  If you're shy around paper snips you may not want to try this at home kids!  I lined up where I wanted to have the hole on the insert (layer 2 inside my card) and sliced a hole with one end of my snips.

It's kind of like a hobby blade, right?  I carefully opened my snips, and held the side with the blade when making the hole. Although he probably won't OOZE over the card (he's a man's man at his age), I had fun and that's what counts!  LOL

Here's a better view of the window as you're opening the card.  I cut two piece for the front of the truck, so it wouldn't get masked behind the window.

I also cut out a little framelit ring to add a layer of interest around my truck.  I love the subtle hint on the front that the present is in the truck, then the money sticking out of the inside of the truck when you open the card.  Killer!!

Now here's shot of the second layer (inside the card).  I put snail adhesive around the area that I want to stick, but left the part under the money plain, so it's not stuck in there and he can get the money out.

Oh, this is so fun..

So how about some measurements...
Base: 11 x 4 1/4", scored and folded in half at 5 1/2"
Inside (layer 2): 5 1/4" x 4 very vanilla
Layer 3: Very vanilla ring around the hole in my card
Layer 4: 4 1/2 x 2" scrap, cut with the edgelit die, then attached to the bottom.  stamped with "happy dirt day" in riding hood red.

And I KNOW my husband will give me a hard time about all the embellishments on the "guy's guy" card, so i tied a knot instead of a bow with the ribbon. I love how that makes the window pop!

Here is the finished card window closed.  I'll put this one in a clear envelope for delivery to the party tomorrow.  So sweet!  I love the black buttons with the bling hubcaps.. Those aren't self adhesive rhinestones, that's chrome baby!

Thanks for stopping by tonight.  if you want to play along with the sketch, and see what my girlfriends are up to, head on over to stamping 411.  They made some AWESOME cards with this easy peasy sketch.  If you decide to make some cards with the sketch, have fun with it!

Here's a peek of the sketch.  Won't you join us?

Rubbah hugs,
Selene Kempton

  3. Hi Selene!

This is such a cute card! I've been thinking about this set, but, alas, there are no boys in my life!

Anyway, I also want to thank the Stamping 411 Operators for selecting my card again for the challenge. Unfortunately, I'm unable to leave a comment on the Stamping 411 blog. :(

So I get to kill 2 birds with 1 stone here! :)
